RYA Start Yachting

Start Yachting – A short introduction to sailing for complete beginners.

We run our Start Yachting courses over two days, mostly weekends, We will meet the yacht on Saturday morning, for a full day sailing around the solent, then will aim to moor up in Cowes or Portsmouth to sample some local food and enjoy a leisurely evening. Sunday morning we will have another full day learning and practicing all of your new found skills. We will aim to be back at your drop off point by 1600

Your instructor will guide you through the safety procedures and make sure you are comfortable and at ease aboard your yacht before you set sail. He or she will show you all the basics and will be there to support you at every stage, but by the end of your first weekend aboard you will have accomplished so much. You will be able to steer a yacht, handle rope work, sail a basic course and be aware of safety onboard. You may find you’re a natural and hooked for life.

Holders of the Start Yachting certificate can go on to complete the Competence Crew course in a reduced time of three days or two weekends. understand you may be apprehensive. The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment and we are sure you will not want to leave at the end of the course.
